Anastasia’s path to becoming a psychotherapist started when she was studying life sciences and psychology in her undergraduate degree. With a growing interest in psychology and healthcare, she gravitated towards supporting folks through talk therapy and pursued training in psychotherapy.

work as much as she has with couples; however, couples work has now become the core of her practice. Anastasia found her work as a couples therapist to be extremely rewarding and realized that the more directive approach required in this role sparked her interest in and aptitude for work as a clinical supervisor and mentor. She has now expanded her solo private practice to include another therapist. Her practice is called Hera Therapy, referring to Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage, and a nod to her Greek identity as well as primary focus on relationships.
Her office is in Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood.
Thank you, Anastasia, for the wonderful conversation, it was a pleasure getting to know you and learning about your work.
Sincerely,
Alice

Welcome to our new feature! Each month, we showcase a member-suggested podcast episode as part of OSRP’s effort to bring you micro-reviews of insightful content in the field of psychotherapy. All materials are available free of charge as part of our member engagement initiative.
We invite you to submit podcast episodes that you found inspiring or educational. If your suggestion is accepted, you’ll also be compensated for your time. Enjoy, and happy listening!
We’re debuting with an episode that speaks about two topics that might not get enough airtime, especially for new therapists: the art of the consultation (and saying “no”), and the therapist’s inherent vulnerability.
(These podcast recommendations are for inspiration and learning. They don’t replace supervision, instruction, or CRPO regulations, and OSRP doesn’t officially endorse the content. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and use your professional judgment in applying what you learn.)
Title of Podcast Series: New Books in Psychoanalysis: part of the New Books Network
Title of Episode: The Analyst’s Vulnerability: Impact on Theory and Practice
Date released: December 23, 2021
Link to Episode: https://newbooksnetwork.com/the-analysts-vulnerability
Guest: Karen J. Moroda, Ph.D., APBB, certified psychologist and psychoanalyst, with CBT training, 30+ years as a therapist (Milwaukee), and author of the book in the episode title
Interviewer: Roy Barsness, Clinical Psychoanalytic Psychologist, Founder and Executive Director of the Post-Graduate Program in Relationally-Focused Psychodynamic Therapy, 30+ years as a therapist (Seattle)
Moroda uses her analysis of the personality type of the average therapist to better understand where we are vulnerable, and what we can do to recognize and shore up our practices.
Her thoughts on therapeutic “fit” and the importance of listening to your gut during consultations to decide if you are really the best person to work with a new client can provide some self-confidence in new therapists, or even in those looking to mindfully enlarge their practices.
She reminds us to prevent disruptive “enactments” (which can lead to complaints) by being aware of our own vulnerabilities, while also finding the courage to carefully provide useful and tactful feedback to the client.
This warm and frank talk between veteran therapists is eye-opening (ear-opening?) re: the therapist’s stance and boundaries. I could relate to their discussion of what we aren’t taught about how to intervene effectively when we feel negative emotions towards the client.
Moroda’s practical, common-sense style is a cool breath of fresh air. Barsness keeps her focused on useful tips for new therapists, or for any therapist looking for a new, and validating, perspective.

Deborah has come to psychotherapy later in life, with a deep belief that her life journey has given her the insights and experiences that now shape her work.
Her interest in the field of psychotherapy sparked in high school, but she shifted her focus toward a health studies program at Brock University, where she became especially drawn to mental health and eating disorders. She then moved on to work as a nurse and life went on. Eventually, she decided to return to her original goal of becoming a therapist. She enrolled at Adler Graduate Professional School and graduated in 2022, feeling like she had finally returned to the path she was meant to take.
Deborah is accepting new clients and focuses on adults, nurses, and professionals. You can find her here: https://www.deborahwalkerpsychotherapy.com/

World Teen Mental Wellness Day 2025 is observed on Sunday, March 2nd. This is an annual event that is always held on the same day each year.
World Teen Mental Wellness Day is dedicated to creating conversations, raising awareness, and destigmatizing issues around teen mental health. The day seeks to help teens in the right way and get them talking about the issues that are relevant to them. Teen mental health can drastically affect the rest of their lives and lead to depression and other negative outcomes. It is so important to create an environment in which teens feel comfortable enough to share their true feelings to ensure their mental wellbeing. It is also necessary to participate in the process of destigmatizing mental illnesses so that teens can feel more at ease about getting the help that they need.
World Teen Mental Wellness Day was founded in 2020 by the Hollister Confidence Project. This was the first day to be established solely focusing on the mental health of teenagers. The Hollister Confidence Project is a 24/7 organization that is supported by people. They are dedicated to helping teens around the world feel their best and have the best possible mental health. In addition to their other work, the Hollister Confidence Fund provides grants to non-profit organizations such as teen mental health and equity for marginalized youth.
Teen mental health and wellbeing deserves extra attention because this is around the age that young people become more independent and potentially, withdrawn. Teenagers are going through the formative years of their lives as they are experiencing changes in their physical and emotional states. They need support, encouragement, and a comfortable, safe environment that they can express themselves in. Unfortunately, many teens do not have this kind of environment and as a result struggle to express themselves emotionally. This can have many negative effects, particularly on their mental health. Additionally, identifying and beginning to resolve mental health issues from an early age can be hugely beneficial for the individual.
Observing Teen Mental Wellness Day 2025 is all about ensuring that the teens in your life are being supported and cared for in a way that benefits their mental wellbeing. This may sound like a tall order but in fact, doing what you can to help is all that is asked of you. Any assistance that you provide to a teen will likely improve their mental health. There are a number of ways you can do this including: having a conversation with them, sharing your own mental health journey, and creating a space that is safe for frank conversation.
