The Executive Committee is the nucleus of the OSRP Board of Directors. Members of the Executive Committee include the President, Vice-President, Past President, Treasurer and Secretary of the OSRP Board, and any Board members and any other members in good standing that the Executive may, from time to time, appoint.
The Executive Committee provides a concentrated administrative function for the OSRP Board. Each month, it reviews the past and planned work of the Board and any pressing issues. With this information, it sets priorities and plans the agenda for the upcoming Board meeting. It reports to the Board its recommendations on significant actions or policies not handled by another committee. With the Treasurer it monitors finances; with the Secretary it monitors minute keeping and communication; and it is where past, current and next OSRP presidents confer to provide joint leadership.
The Executive maintains the working relationship with the administrative management service provider hired by OSRP. It organizes and executes the Annual General Meeting of the OSRP (Membership Council and Business Meeting). The Executive meets monthly, usually one week before the Board meeting, with additional meetings as necessary.
Creates open dialogue between OSRP and CRPO about member questions, concerns and clarifications. Maintains a cooperative relationship with the CRPO through ongoing communication while ensuring member needs and concerns are addressed.
This committee advocates on issues that benefit and impact Registered Psychotherapists as a whole.
It tracks policies and issues affecting RPs from the College, governments, media, membership requests, and related sectors (especially mental health, professional training and insurance).
The committee triages which issues to pursue based on urgency, relevance, impact and available resources, and engages stakeholders to influence policies for the benefit of the practice of psychotherapy.
Because advocacy is a large portfolio, OSRP works with the 12 other psychotherapy associations in Ontario (since the early 2000s) to ensure our voice is included where we can’t cover every issue ourselves.
PRPA Sub-Committee — Chairs: Dr. Natasha Tuletta-Bowman, PhDs and Taysir Moonim
This task force liaises with the Partnership of Registered Psychotherapist Associations (PRPA) and the Government Engagement Working Group (GEWG). Members attend PRPA & GEWG meetings to represent OSRP interests and advise Executive and Advocacy on areas of focus.
PRPA is a collective of Ontario associations discussing emerging advocacy issues for RPs, with the goal of strengthening the profession by responding to and advocating for issues pertaining to the practice of psychotherapy.
The Connect Committee is the communication arm of the OSRP Board. It keeps members up to date on opportunities and supports, CRPO updates, events and more.
We connect members to each other and foster community through channels including our listserv, blog and social media, to help prospective clients find a therapist and to help therapists find a warm, safe, professional home.
The EDI Committee recognizes that multiple approaches and points of view are core to psychotherapy, and that exclusion and racism are systemic and have affected practice. The committee aims to ensure that residents of Ontario — including marginalized populations — can confidently and safely access high-standard therapeutic care.
We support practitioners in bringing empowered, authentic selves to the work. This initiative holds anti-racism, anti-oppression and social responsibility as defining ideals.
Fills positions on the OSRP Board, carries out election details and submits names to the Board if a vacancy occurs during a term.
As a welcoming contact, informs new members of committees and task forces and gathers interests/skills (Member Profile) for follow-up when positions are being filled. Orients new members and provides information, guidance and leadership (especially between AGM and first Board meeting). Provides oversight and leadership of the AGM.
Revises/improves by-laws (including conflict of interest), the Policy Manual and the Code of Ethics. Develops Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Bullying, Anti-Harassment and Pro-Accessibility Policies for OSRP.
Helps RPs, RP(Q)s and Students protect themselves by identifying ethical challenges and promoting self-education for safe and ethical practice. Initiatives include webinars, newsletter articles and community discussions to help protect members before an ethical breach happens.
